Too Many Guns
Irish brothers were denied the ability to purchase a couple of pistols by the government so they took it to court. And promptly lost of course. I thought Ireland was all about freedom and "throwing off the yoke of their oppressors" and all that garbage?
The applicant said he was entitled to a licence under that legislation in place in October, 2008. “You were entitled to be considered for the licensing of a firearm” Inspector Ruane clarified. The applicant agreed.
Yeah, sounds real free there. If they had a 2nd Amendment, it would read "you have the right to be considered worthy to keep and bear arms".

The court heard that the gun enthusiasts have four guns already, including shotguns and rifles, and that if the superintendent had granted the licence, there would have been six firearms in the house.
"I had certain concerns as to the security of the firearms," she said.
Wow! Six guns. Six whole guns. I have eight guns in site and I'm just at my desk in my home office.
Supt McMahon said the intensity of security needed for a Glock pistol is much higher than a rifle, adding the Glock pistols "have become a weapon of choice for criminals in Limerick city".
Weapons of choice? How can that be? Glocks are not made in Ireland. It is an Island. Guns are heavily controlled there. How can criminals get Glocks? Not only that, but they "choose" Glocks over other choices so there must be plenty of other guns available. But wait, they have gun control there. Oh yeah, I forgot. Gun control doesn't work. Morons.

If the Irish authorities were as lax with gun laws as their American counterparts, what do you think there'd be fewer guns in criminal hands?
I don't think so. Whatever amount of guns is being smuggled in, if you had it your way, that number would be increased by the easy access at home too.
But of course you have nothing to do with guns in criminal hands. You've never had one stolen and you've never sold one to a criminal. What about the other 80 million of your buddies, though, can they all say the same?

I suppose you could say that fewer guns means less guns in criminal hands but you'd be dead wrong, as usual. I think the brothers could probably get hold of some guns from one side or the other.

"Dead wrong, as usual," because criminals COULD get a gun even if there were fewer available.
Sorry, but that makes no sense at all.
