JT Ahead Of His Time
A few years ago, several years in fact, before he was a father or a homeowner and maybe not even a college graduate yet and way before 9/11 or the Iraqi war, JT made a sobering comment that I have never forgotten. Simply put, he said, "It is a shame that the cold war ended, it kept everyone honest".
Now at the time, I think he may have been talking more about international politics than internal but I'm sure we touched on our own borders then. We discussed it all while grilling hamburgers on his carport and thought about how without a real or even perceived enemy, we had to create one either foreign or domestic just to focus our military and police attention.
While hitting the news on the net today and viewing a few favorite blogs and forums, I came across some disturbing items that made me recall our conversation long ago.
Months ago we had this in Vermont.
Followed by this in Massachusetts.
Finally today we have this right smack dab in our nation's capital:
D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier announced a military-style checkpoint yesterday to stop cars this weekend in a Northeast Washington neighborhood.
If that isn't a gut-kick by a police state, I don't know what is. What's next, reinstall signs like this:

Scavok on Ohioans For Concealed Carry forums where I found this story suggested maybe we should approach it like this guy did:
I think if someone tries it though they may very well end up like this kid did. If a cop will tazer a kid for not showing his papers, guess what they would do to a lowly citizen taking a wrong turn in our capital. I saw that at WarOnGuns. David also had this link to the DC nonsense as well.
I agree JT, I miss the cold war too. Back then we had an over zealous government searching for Communists all in the name of protecting the public at large. Now we have a bunch of communists in government using fascist tactics to control the public at large. That rumbling you hear is Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev laughing in hell. He said we'd do to ourselves what the Soviet Union could only dream of doing.

Wow, internal travel checkpoints. I wonder what would have happened if traffic wasn't backing up behind the guy?
