What Time Is It?
Okay, everyone has trouble adapting to daylight savings time the first couple of days. It is normal for your body to adjust to getting up an hour earlier and and eating on a different schedule.
Now, the very next day after changing to daylight savings time, get on an airplane and travel to another time zone. I only went to Central time which is 1 hour behind Eastern Standard Time.
My body hasn't switched yet to EDT from EST but now I am on CDT which is the same as EST was Saturday. Fine, now my body is still operating on the same mode as it was Saturday.
On Tuesday I usually watch The Office which is on Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. I then go to bed at 11 p.m. and get up at 6 a.m. Now since I am on Central Time, The Office comes on at 9.p.m. I also have to get up at 6 a.m. local time which is 7 a.m. EDT time which means since I normally wake up at 6 a.m. EST I will be awake at the correct time locally because I have not adjusted to Daylight Savings Time.
I don't usually wear a watch. However when I fly I wear one because the air Nazis won't let you have your cell phone turned on. So last May when I had to fly, I bought an $8 watch from Walmart. I thought it was cool because it had an analog dial and a digital dial. I read the gigantic instruction book that came with the watch which I thought was a little much for an $8 watch. After I set the time on both clocks, I promptly lost the instruction book.
When November rolled around, which comes after daylight savings time, I had to fly again so I dug out the watch. It was still set on daylight savings time from the summer of course. After a little playing around with it, I managed to set the digital time but there was no way to unlock the secret of changing the analog watch face as it uses buttons and not a stem like a normal analog watch would. So, I flew to New York remembering to subtract an hour from the watch whenever I glanced at it.
Monday morning, as I was preparing to leave for the airport, I once again pulled out the watch. Since daylight savings time started Sunday, the analog clock once again showed the correct time. On the way to the airport, I looked at the watch several times trying to get into the habit of using it rather than using my cell phone as some sort of weird pocket watch. I of course didn't bother adjusting the digital readout.
So, now I am in Central time on daylight savings time with my internal clock set to Eastern Standard Time which matches Central Time on daylight savings time. I'm pretty sure nobody bothered to change the clock in my rental car. Or did they? I don't know. I get to my hotel and I'm pretty sure no one stayed in this room Sunday and the clock did not get changed so now it matches one of the times on my watch. I don't know if my computer knows it is daylight savings time or what time zone it is in. Did my cell phone switch time zones? Is it correct? I don't know anymore. Is the analog time on my watch correct or do I need to subtract an hour? Or maybe add an hour. Does that make the digital time correct or do I add an hour to it?
All I know is I have to leave in a few minutes to meet some vendors for dinner in St. Paul. Did I change the time on my hotel clock? Wait, am I now an hour late? I don't know. Shit, I got to go.
