Flying Again

I don't think I ever made it a secret that I am not a fan of commercial air travel. Its not the flying itself but rather all the crap before and after.

I had to fly to Minneapolis yesterday through Chicago.  The first leg into Chicago was on United. They seem tro have their act together at the counter and boarding. I had a row to myself up front so I could stick my feet into first class. It was an A320 and the seats were comfortable. Plane ride was fine even if they are maintained in China. I wonder which is better, having Chinese maintain your aircraft or Southwest's approach, just skip maintenance altogether.

After walking about 6 miles in Chicago, I made it to the American Airlines gates. They have some serious counter issues. Boarding was a nightmare. They decided to try a new and improved old way of boarding where they start at the back of the plane first. They then didn't count or monitor the large carry-ons so they ended up with people standing in the aisles looking for overhead space. They then started berating passengers to sit down so they could take off. We left about 15 minutes late because of their boarding mess. Seats are terrible on an MD80 especially if you are a fat-ass like me. Good aircrew though, nice smooth flight and I fell asleep until the wheels hit the runway in Minneapolis.

I've had worse flights. Hope the return home is ok.

Flying stopped being fun after the 1980s. I haven't flown since the mid-90s and don't care to in the foreseeable future. I'm waiting for them to make passengers strip and put on paper gowns and paper shoes before boarding.
