A few of us were sitting around the campfire last weekend injecting insulin because that is what overweight people do when the discussion turned to the insulin pump. My brother, who does not yet need to inject insulin, came up with a brilliant idea: Have a handheld device that lets you select your food and portion and then plug it into your pump and have the device control your insulin. So if anyone comes up with this idea, you owe some royalties.

This has already been invented. It is called the Omnipod insulin delivery system by Insulet corporation. It contains more than 1000 foods or you can enter the number of carbs the food you are eating contains and it figures out your insulin amount and gives it you you wirelessly. Sorry guys, someone beat you to it.

It would work but it needs to be able to take photos and send text messages before it'd succeed.
