A group of smart people think we need a tunnel linking Alaska to Russia. Redneck has a money saving idea to help.
Personally, I think the whole concept is a great idea. We have the Chunnel which is a monument to progress and freedom of choice. Now France has the option of surrendering directly to Britain instead of just Germany. With this new land bridge, we will be one step closer to turning the world map into the game of RISK.

I'm amazed they're serioously considering it, considering all the trouble we have with the border with Mexico. Now there'll be a surge of illegal Russians in Alaska.

OTOH, the economy in the Russian Federation has been improving steadily since Putin took office. I read some time ago that Russia was becoming concerned about the increasing number of people trying to get into Russia. At that time, one issue was that they wanted to make sure that newcomers would go directly to areas where job openings were plentiful. So I doubt that there will be all that much of a problem with illegal Russians coming in.
Of course, if you are talking about jihadists (the vast majority of whom do not originate from Russia) - they will use any route they can find to infiltrate the U.S. And we have to secure all borders, ports, and shores, including that one, even though I doubt that this particular route would be of much use to terrorists.
