Way Back Wednesday #3

Here are some members of the FatWhiteMan family tree.

This photo would have been taken around the turn of the century.  It predates my grandfather who was born in 1903.  The guy on the lower right was my Great-Grandfather. He was born in 1863 in Johnson Co. Kentucky.  The other four guys were hi brothers. The couple in the back were my Great-Great Grandparents.  My Great-Great-grandfather was born in 1829 in Floyd Co. Kentucky and fought in the civil war. He was given a 1200 acre land grant in Kentucky for service with the 45th Kentucky Mounted Infantry.

My Great-Great Grandmother was born in 1831 in Hazard Co. Kentucky and died 1916 in Johnson Co. Kentucky.  I have talked to two people who remembered her.  One was my grandfather, who said she used to walk the grandkids to church every Sunday while she smoked a pipe. She would set it on a fence post just around the bend from the church and then retrieve it on the way home.  The other that knew her was the grandmother of a friend of mine here in Ohio.  She grew up on a farm in Kentucky over the hill from my Great Grandparents farm and remembered her from when she was very young. She said that my great-grandmother was one of the oldest women in the valley and everyone knew her.

My great-great grandparents were buried on their farm in Oil Springs Kentucky. I may try to find it sometime.
