Who the hell is Rob Dyrdek & Big Black?
Anybody know? Well I'm sure somebody knows. I'm sure I don't know. But here is what I do know:
1. They have something to do with MTV.
2. Rob has parents in Ohio.
3. Rob apparently likes to skateboard and MTV likes to take pictures of him doing it.
4. They were dumb enough to go to King's Island today.
So how does a Fat White Man know all of this you ask? Or maybe you don't ask but, hey, it's my blog so I'm going to tell you. I check into my hotel today in Dayton area and lying on the floor just inside the door of my room is a single sheet of paper with lots of little writing and an MTV Logo. My first thought is someone left their bill on the floor because this particular hotel will slide your bill under the door and it ends up lying on the floor just like this paper did.
Upon closer inspection, (and I only inspected it closer because I thought someone might be getting a cheaper rate than me) I realize that this is some sort of shooting schedule for some reality show called Rob & Big Black starring Rob Dyrdek, whoever that is.
So, being the curious sort that I am (not really but I am bored today) I read further. These MTV people appear to be very paranoid. There are-no kidding-84 phone numbers on a single 8x11 1/2 sheet of paper. Everybody on this list has a cell phone and an alternate number. I didn't know you could squeeze so much information onto one sheet of paper. In addition to 84 phone numbers, there is a shooting schedule, rules list, crew list, room number list, local police and hospital numbers, addresses for every place they will be and even a description of their vehicles and a quote of the day! I thought about calling one of the cell phone numbers and saying "you guys still at King's Island?" and see how long I could keep them talking wondering who I was. But I'm not that bored.
I don't know who this Rob Dyrdek dude is but he seems awfully important to draw so much attention that it takes such an entourage to visit his parents, a skate park and King's Island. I'm sure he got in free, but I wouldn't waste my time going to King's Island free or otherwise. Of course, he gets to have Maureen, Jennifer and a Ride's Team Manager accompany him so he doesn't have to wait in any lines. I also bet his security gets to pass the silly "No Guns" signs at the entrance as well. Here's an idea: show up at King's Island in a couple of SUV's and Minivans full of tech looking people and cameras. While enroute, have someone call Maureen Kaiser and tell her your party is running 15 minutes behind schedule. I bet they let you in free too thinking you are someone important that they forgot to prepare for.
MTV seems to have a lot of rules: You can't have any cameras around without MTV written approval. You can't have any MTV clothing. And absolutely no open toe shoes—that really pisses someone off. Wonder if they have rules about leaving important documents lying about hotel rooms? My company does. Everytime I leave an aging with customer names and addresses phone numbers and balances and advertising budgets lying in a hotel, they get real pissy.
I guess I could have been a dick and posted all of this while they were still in route to their shooting areas, but then, hey, what did this guy ever do to me? I never even heard of him which, to tell you the truth, I would bet a ton of money (which I don't have—maybe he does) that he has never heard of me either. I thought about calling and seeing if they want their paper back but since I don't know who any of these people are and someone showed up at my hotel banging on the door and yelling they are a Big Black I would have to get my friend Mr. Springfield, XD to answer the door and he's an asshole. So instead of all that, I'll just write this blog and ask the question: Who the hell is Rob Dyrdek? I bet JT knows. He's a skinny white dude about the same age that likes skateboards and is from Ohio. Maybe they are the same person? Hmm, come to think of it, I've never seen JT and Rob Dyrdek in the same room.....but then, if JT was going to King's Island today for free, he would have told me and I'm pretty sure his folks live in Columbus instead of Dayton.
I don't watch MTV much but when I do, they usually do something to piss me off. Maybe I'll just tune in ever now and then and if they piss me off, I'll post some production supervisor's phone number. I have 84 to keep me busy. Maybe if MTV puts something on the air that really pisses me off such as something about Gun Control or some pet PETA project I'll post Rob's mom's phone number and address. More likely I'll just throw out this paper when I'm done typing.
Maybe I'll try and watch this show and see who the hell Rob & Big Black is.

Dyrdek didn't start or own DC. They started sponsoring him in 95, and he has a few signature shoes that helped put DC on the map. DC Shoes is owned by Quicksilver now, which also owns Tony Hawks apparel. Just to let you know.

Lets just get something straight. Rob Dyrdek doesnt own DC Shoes. He is only sponsered by them. He was first sponsered by Alien Workshop when he was younger. A guy named Ken Block owns/found DC Shoes. Big Black and Rob dont make shows anymore. Big Black and his wife had a baby. Big Black will hopefully come back in the show later on in the future. But they are still friends.
everybody on this website doesnt know anything about skating dyrdek turned pro on seek skateboards then moved to alien workshop and has been in their videos such as photosynthesis and mindfield dyrdek is also not as good as people think he was good when the dc video came out but ever since he started this mtv shit he has been slipping nothing but lifestyle shots in the magazine you people need to check out better pros and ams such as mike mo guy mariano andrew reynolds chima ferguson gilbert crockett etc
